Badal’s result card on performance is negative: Bajwa

Chandigarh: Joining issues with the Chief Minister, Mr. Parkash Singh Badal, that the people should judge his government by performance only, the state Congress President, Mr. Partap Singh Bajwa, said this was the criteria adopted by the people which had reduced the margin of victory of his daughter-n-law Mrs. Harsimrat Kaur, now a Union Minister, to a few thousand from more than a lakh in the earlier election. He said now even Akali Dal’s alliance partner, the Bharatiya Janata Party, had started questioning his functioning on which the performance depends. “Can Mr. Badal deny the fact that all the resources of the state had been diverted to Bathinda and the district administration used to be at her beck and call whenever Mrs. Harsimrat Badal visted her constituency. This was the only Lok Sabha constituency in the state where people showed even black flags in the villages to the party candidate seeking re-election”, he added saying the Badals had been doing everything possible to appease the people in that VIP constituency. But for AAP, the Akali Dal would have lost from Bathinda also. Lambasting Mr. Badal for his performance criteria, the PPCC chief confronted him with the fact of more than 18,000 industrial units having been closed down during the last seven years. He said yet another performance of his government was the winding up of operations by the IT giant Dell in Mohali. He said his government projected the investment summit as its stellar performance where MOU for Rs. 66,000 crore investments were signed. However, nothing had materialised on the ground, so much for the performance of his government. On the farm sector front, the incidence of farmers committing suicides had increased. He said it was ridiculous that Mr. Badal had extended the argument that there was no political motivation behind his sangat darshan programmes. Then how come that he had camping in Talwandi Sabo only for the last several days where Assembly by-election is to be held, he asked. It was not the Congress which was seeing political motives behind his sangat darshan programmes but his own intention was more than clearer from his priority to Talwandi Sabo. Mr. Bajwa maintained he was strongly in favour of greater interaction of the political leadership with the people and direct connect but at the same time, it was the delivery system which should be made efficient and the Chief Minister should not be wasting his precious time in resolving such problems of the people which could be sorted out at the level of a tehsildar. The system must be made to respond and work efficiently but the administrative set up in this state was corrupt and degenerate which was a reflection on the political leadership. Even the so called administrative reforms, now a forgotten agenda, had failed to improve the situation. The PPCC chief said even the BJP, the alliance partner of the Akali Dal, was now openly questioning the functioning of the Chief Minister and his Deputy Chief Minister son, Mr. Sukhbir Singh Badal. He said the senior most BJP leader in the state, Mr. Balramji Dass Tandon, had hit the nail on the head by coming out openly against their functioning. The BJP was still licking the wounds caused by the defeat of the party stalwart, Mr. Arun Jaitley, from Amritsar for which it blamed the Akali Dal. He said it was the BJP which was now complaining about the system of Halqa in-charge which had played havoc with the administration and was not just a criticism by the Congress.
